No.1 Background Of Using Sugarcane Leaves And Bagasse
In Southeast Asian and Africa, sugarcane is an important agricultural cash crop. In the past, sugarcane leaves and bagasse as a by-product of crops, were generally directly burnt, which not only caused environmental pollution but also wasted resources. Today, more and more factories are using bagasse or sugar cane leaves to process into renewable biofuel briquettes for waste utilization. In Kenya, there are many sugar mills, so people process bagasse and sugarcane leaf into 60mm-90mm diameter briquettes for heating, cooking, and industrial boilers fuel, which not only protects the environment but also solves the problem of waste of resources. In India, there is numerous briquette manufacturing plant for industrial boilers also.
No.2 Sugarcane Bagasse&Leaves Briquettes Advantage and Application
Compared to sawdust briquette commonly used, sugarcane leaves briquette or bagasse briquettes are more used by industrial boilers. With the development of society, more and more biomass power plants built around the world. The high moisture content of these biomass feedstocks is a big challenge. Except for sugarcane leaves and bagasse, crop straw, rice husks, peanut shells, and coconut shells can all be pressed into biomass briquette fuel. They are a renewable resource with low cost and high yield as an agriculture by-product.
For crop straw, a larger compression ratio is required when briquetting. To achieve greater production capacity and reduce production costs, we recommend producing briquette with a size of 30-40 mm for projects of more than 15,000 tons/year. Our heavy-duty briquette machine’s maximum output can reach 10 tons per hour, so it is a good choice for power plants.
Except for power generation, bagasse briquettes can also be used for industrial boilers and home heating. The biomass briquettes have low moisture content, stable calorific value output, and long burning time, which is a high-quality fuel. Bagasse briquette releases higher heat than sugarcane leaf briquettes.
No.3 Caloric Value of Sugarcane Leaf Briquette and Bagasse Briquette
Compared with wood briquettes, the calorific value of sugarcane leaves briquettes is lower, but the ash content is higher. Its advantage is no coking and no damage to the boiler compared with rice husk pellets&briquettes.
Generally, the calorific value of sugarcane waste briquette is between 2500 kcal and 4200 kcal. It depends on your raw material, moisture content, and cleanliness. The more impurities it contains, the lower the calorific value it has. The density of the briquettes is between 1 g/cm3 and 1.3g/cm3, and the bulk density depends on the size and actual density.
For sugar cane leaves, we recommend producing square industrial briquettes, which are irregular in length but do not affect the use of industrial boilers and power plants. For bagasse, we recommend producing cylindrical briquette with high density, regular shape and length, beautiful appearance, and it can be stored for a long time, so very suitable for home heating&cooking.
No.4 How To Make Sugarcane Bagasse&Leaves Into Briquettes
The freshly harvested sugarcane leaves and the sugarcane bagasse from sugar mills have relatively high moisture content (50%-70%). There are two options for drying the feedstock, drying under the sun or drying by the rotary dryer. The storage time is short and easy to back loose if the feedstock moisture content is high.
Rotary dryers are excellent drying equipment with high output, stable operation, and low maintenance costs. For more information on dryers, click here.
Sugarcane leaves often contain impurities such as sand or soil, which lead to high ash content and low combustion value of the briquette or pellets produced. A rotary screener before briquetting is a good choice for dirty sugarcane leaves.
Compared with sugarcane leaves, bagasse is much cleaner. It contains almost no impurities such as soil and sand, so the heat value of bagasse briquette can be around 4000 kcal, and it is a high-quality biofuel.According to the different requirements of the size and shape of the briquette.
we have two types biomass briquetting machines for sugarcane residue, ring die briquette machine and piston-type briquette machine. The briquette produced by the ring die machine is irregular in size, more suitable for power plants and industrial boilers, and the mechanical piston-type briquetting machine can easily adjust the briquette diameter and density, and the briquette size is regular.
