NO.1 What is RDF/SFR/RPF Pellet or Briquettes
RDF comes from Refuse Derived Fuel, which refers to the process of combustible waste into fragments of 5 to 6 cm in length. RDF pellet/briquette is a solid briquette made of various waste after sorting, crushing, magnetic separation, iron removal, re-crushing, and briquetting. The calorific value of good RDF briquette at About 5000-6,500 kcal/kg, which is even higher than the coal., The residue after combustion only accounts for 1/10 of the coal residue, that’s easier to transport and treat. It can be used as an alternative fuel for industrial boilers, power plants, and gasification power plants.
Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) briquettes are produced from Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) or Industrial Waste. RDF pellets or briquettes also called Solid Recovered Fuel (SRF), are mainly composed of organic parts of MSW such as paper, cardboard, textiles, and wood. However, a significant portion of SRF and RDF includes mixed plastics. So SRF or RDF briquettes can come from household, commercial or industrial waste and other combustible waste.
NO.2 Classification of RDF
The ASTM divides RDF into 7 kinds based on the waste processing, shape, and application of RDF fuels.
Item | Process | Condition |
RDF-1 | Separate the bulky garbage in the waste. | Loose |
RDF-2 | Solid waste after crushing ( through a 152mm sieve ) without removing metal and glass. | Coarse |
RDF-3 | Remove metal and glass from waste, crush the solid waste, and through a 50mm sieve. | Fluff |
RDF-4 | Remove the metal and glass in the waste, crush the waste and pass it through a 1.83mm sieve. | Powder |
RDF-5 | Remove metal and glass, crush and briquetting the waste into briquettes. | Densified |
RDF-6 | Liquid fuel | Liquid |
RDF-7 | Gas fuel | Gas |
NO.3 Why Make a RDF Pellet or Briquette?
Compared with fresh original MSW waste and Industrial waste, RDF pellet and RDF briquette has the following advantages. It is a high-quality fuel for waste gasification power generation and large industrial boilers. Briquette made by RDF briquette machine or MSW pellet machine is widely used in drying engineering, cement manufacturing, heating engineering, power generation engineering, and other fields.
- The briquetting process can increase the calorific value of waste by about four times. The briquettes with lower moisture content, uniform size, stable calorific value, and stable heat released during combustion.
- The RDF pellets/briquettes are easy to transport and store. Store for more than half a year is no problem, and the storage environment will not cause secondary pollution.
- Part of the waste can be temporarily stored as RDF briquettes to solve the disposal capacity problem during the peak period.
- Low secondary pollution and low emission of dioxins.
- Removing SO2 and HCl in the furnace and reducing the emission of dioxins can be achieved by adding additives in the RDF briquetting process.
- This fuel can be used separately, or burned with coal or fuel oil according to the boiler process requirements.
NO.4 Process Flow of RDF Briquetting Production Line
The RDF pellet/briquette production technology process includes several sections. The first step is crushing MSW or industrial waste. Then sort out combustibles, and finally briquetting them into pellets or briquettes. The production system consists of two main parts: pre-treatment and Pelletizing/Briquetting.
The pretreatment process of RDF waste includes crushing, sorting, drying, etc. Firstly, crushing the MSW or Industrial waste, shreddering the size within 50 mm. Secondly, remove incombustible materials ( metal, glass, sand, etc ) through one or two stages of the sorting process. Thirdly, crush or dry the combustible materials (such as plastics, fibers, rubber, wood, textiles, food waste). The last step is pelletizing or briquetting solid RDF briquette fuel with high calorific value and stable combustion. SRF briquette machine is crucial section.
The complete production process of the entire production line generally includes several parts: coarse crushing – fine crushing – screening – drying – briquetting. The sequence will depend on the waste composition, size, or moisture.
NO.5 Machines Included In a RDF Briquetting Plant
RDF briquette production line usually includes a shredder, sorting machine, and RDF briquetting machine.
- Solid Waste Shredder
Depending on the size and material, one or more primary shredders, twin shaft shear shredders, or fine crushers may be applied. The function is to shred the waste to within 40mm size. - Sorting Machine
The function is to remove incombustible materials or remove recycling metals, soil, etc. The machines include a magnetic separator, eddy current separator, bouncing screen, airflow sorting machine, rotary screener, etc. - RDF Pellet Machine or RDF Briquette machine
The RDF briquette machine make briquettes from waste. The briquettes have higher combustion performance and are easy to transport. A large RDF briquette plant usually needs several sets of briquette machines to achieve large output. - Other Machines
Other machines may be needed based on the waste size and actual condition. Such as are dryers, air separators, etc. As the high drying cost, dryers are not a common choice.
NO.6 RDF Pellet Machine or RDF Briquette Machine
The RDF briquetting machine is a crucial part of the briquetting production line. Now there are two kinds of briquetting equipment, one is the stamping type, and the other is the ring die type. The following factors decide the final choice.
- Raw materials type, composition, and proportion
- The briquette size, shape, and output of the machine
- The investment costs scale,
- Plant area, production cost, and other conditions
NO.7 Application Fields Of The RDF Briquetting Machine
- Industrial waste from factories RDF Briquettes production
- MSW RDF SRF pellet/briquettes production.
- Landfill MSW pellet or briquette production.
- Large furniture RDF pellet/ briquettes production.
- Sludge RDF pelletbriquettes production.
- Other RDF pellet/briquettes production.
NO.8 Application Fields of The RDF Briquettes?
Cement manufacturing is considered one of the largest energy-consuming industries in the world. In addition, it faces economic and environmental challenges. RDF briquettes are good alternative fuels in this field. To meet the energy consumption requirement of 120 kWh/t, cement plants use 12%-15% of the total energy. 5%-7% of carbon dioxide emissions are generated by the cement industry. However, several studies have shown that these numbers have fallen by around 5% globally due to improvements in energy efficiency and alternative fuels usage.
NO.9 FAQ About RDF Briquettes Production
-
What is the approximate investment required to build an RDF fuel plant?
RDF briquette is mainly in power stations, cement plants, etc. The detailed investment cost is evaluated based on the actual plan. You could contact us to get a detailed proposal based on your condition.
-
How much is a set of RDF briquette production lines?
It depends on the type of waste. The RDF plant may include multi-stage waste shredders (pre-shredder, double-shaft shredder, fine shredder), screening machine, briquette machine, etc. In addition, the output of different projects also varies greatly, so any quotations that are out of actual needs have no reference significance. You can tell us your needs, and we will provide a design for your reference.
-
If an RDF briquette production line could only process one kind of raw material?
The RDF briquette production line has strong adaptability for different industrial solid waste and MSW waste. But some configurations need doing customization.
